BOX SCORE

Boyertown, Pa. (May 17, 2007) – The College of New Jersey senior starter Blake Ortiz (Swedesboro, N.J.) threw his second career complete game and second straight to lead the second-seeded Lions to a 6-1 win over #7 Wilkes University Wednesday evening in game three of the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Baseball Regional at Bear Stadium.

Wilkes (24-11) held a slim one-run lead until the sixth inning when the Lions (33-9) scored five times on three base hits and two costly Wilkes’ errors.  TCNJ senior Blake Bullis (Delran, N.J.) finished the day 1-for-4 and tied the school record for hits in a career with 235.  Ortiz finished the night giving up one run on two hits with six strikeouts.

Wilkes took a 1-0 lead in the fourth when junior Chris Mayerski (Swoyersville, Pa.), who finished with the only two hits of the day for the Colonels, hit a solo homer down the left field line.  It was the eight homer of the season for Mayerski.

TCNJ had a pair of runners reach third base in the first five innings, but failed to score until the offense exploded for five runs in the sixth inning.  The Lions sent 11 batters to the plate during the frame.  Junior Bill Kropp (Pottstown, Pa.) knocked in the go-ahead run with a sacrifice fly to center and PJ Anzelone (Vernon, N.J.) plated a pair with a single to right center.

The Lions put one more run on the board in the eighth inning and Bullis retired 11 of the last 12 batters to advance in the winner’s bracket.
