Boyertown, Pa. (May 17, 2007) – Senior Daniel Zeffiro (Old Bridge, NJ) tossed his sixth complete-game of the season and his first shutout of the year scattering five hits over nine innings while striking out seven to lead top-seeded Kean University past #5 Frostburg State University, 7-0, in game four of the 2007 NCAA Division III Mid-Atlantic Regional Baseball Tournament at Bear Stadium.

            Zeffiro got all the support he needed in the bottom of the first inning when junior Maikel De La Rosa (Newark, NJ) lead off the inning and scored on a sacrifice fly from senior Joseph D’Andrea (Hamilton, NJ).  Junior Derek Gianakas (Edison, NJ) followed with a solo home run to give the Cougars (36-8) a 2-0 lead.

            Kean added two more runs in the third inning on a two-run shot off the bat of junior Dan Mattonelli (Hamilton, NJ), his first round-tripper of the season and increased its lead to 6-0 in the fourth on a two-RBI single from junior Ryan Clark (Livingston, NJ).  D’Andrea plated the final run of the game in the fifth when he scored on a single from senior Perry Shatzow (Ocean Township, NJ).

            Zeffiro improves to 8-1 with the win, while sophomore Scott Eastment (Warrenton, VA) fell to 8-2 for the Bobcats (31-15).  Eastment lasted four innings allowing all seven runs on eight hits.  Junior Bryan Burke (Lindenhurst, NJ) came in relief and tossed four solid innings allowing just two hits.

            De La Rosa, Schatzow and Clark each had two hits to lead the Cougar attack as seven of the nine Kean starters recorded hits and six of the nine starters crossed home plate.  Burke led the FSU offensive attack with two of the five hits.

Athletes of the Week
Softball
Batted .600 (7-12) in two conference matchups for the Crusaders this week. Two doubles, one triple, and two homeruns contributed to four RBIs for Sorrentino, also plated 6 runs scored.
Baseball
Batted .667 (10-15) with three doubles, one triple, and three RBIs in a 2 win, 2 lose week for the Crusaders. Also scored 9 runs and was perfect in stolen base attempts. (3-3)

Reading, Pa. (June 18, 2008) - Former Alvernia College catcher Anthony Recker continues to impress at every level. The two-time Pennsylvania Athletic Conference player of the year will make his third straight All-Star appearance this summer representing the Midland Rockhounds in the 2008 Texas League All-Star game next Wednesday in Springfield, Missouri.

Wednesday June 18, 2008 (Reading, PA) - Freshman pitcher Chuck Nicholas (Boyertown, PA/Boyertown) was named the ECAC South Rookie of the Year and was named to the Second Team, senior catcher Dale Curry (Philadelphia, PA/Father Judge) added to his accolades with a spot on the ECAC South First Team as announced by the conference on Wednesday morning.
