Boyertown, Pa. (May 17, 2007) – Sophomore starter Sam Heaps (Landenberg, PA) threw seven scoreless innings allowing six hits and two walks with five strikeouts to lead #6 Elizabethtown College to a 4-2 win over #7 Wilkes University Thursday afternoon at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Baseball Regional at Bear Stadium.

            Elizabethtown (23-17) put single runs on the board in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings.  Brandon Watson (Philadelphia, PA) walked and scored in the fourth inning, and Rodney Francis (Pottstown, PA) repeated the feat in the fifth.  Senior Jared Morris (Brielle, N.J.) singled to open the sixth and scored on a ground ball double play to put the Blue Jays up 3-0.

            Wilkes (24-12) scored a run on a Matt LoPresto (Pittston, Pa.) solo homer in the home half of the eighth, but Etown got it right back scoring once on four singles in the ninth.  Wilkes scored once in the bottom of the ninth and brought the winning run to the plate with two out, but Andrew Garofoli (Altoona, Pa.) popped out to end the game.

            Five different players had two hits in the game for Wilkes which stranded 13 runners.  Francis scored twice for Etown and seven different players had one hit each for the Blue Jays who advance to face the loser of the Johns Hopkins/College of New Jersey game Friday at 9:30 a.m.

Baseball
Batted .667 (10-15) with three doubles, one triple, and three RBIs in a 2 win, 2 lose week for the Crusaders. Also scored 9 runs and was perfect in stolen base attempts. (3-3)
Softball
Batted .600 (7-12) in two conference matchups for the Crusaders this week. Two doubles, one triple, and two homeruns contributed to four RBIs for Sorrentino, also plated 6 runs scored.

Reading, Pa. (June 18, 2008) - Former Alvernia College catcher Anthony Recker continues to impress at every level. The two-time Pennsylvania Athletic Conference player of the year will make his third straight All-Star appearance this summer representing the Midland Rockhounds in the 2008 Texas League All-Star game next Wednesday in Springfield, Missouri.

Wednesday June 18, 2008 (Reading, PA) - Freshman pitcher Chuck Nicholas (Boyertown, PA/Boyertown) was named the ECAC South Rookie of the Year and was named to the Second Team, senior catcher Dale Curry (Philadelphia, PA/Father Judge) added to his accolades with a spot on the ECAC South First Team as announced by the conference on Wednesday morning.
