Alvernia Intramural Mission Statement

The Alvernia College Department of Intramural and Recreation Sports, as part of a college with roots in the Franciscan tradition, strives to contribute to the complete realization of the student as an intellectual, social, emotional, physical, and spiritual being.  You don’t have to be an athlete to play; these recreational activities are for everyone.  Participants can choose to play at either the competitive or recreational level for the sports that are offered.

The Alvernia College Intramural Athletic Board (IAB) is composed of Alvernia College students put into place to organize and manage Intramural Activities for Alvernia College students, faculty, and staff.  The Board is as follows:

Athletes of the Week
Softball
Batted .600 (7-12) in two conference matchups for the Crusaders this week. Two doubles, one triple, and two homeruns contributed to four RBIs for Sorrentino, also plated 6 runs scored.
Baseball
Batted .667 (10-15) with three doubles, one triple, and three RBIs in a 2 win, 2 lose week for the Crusaders. Also scored 9 runs and was perfect in stolen base attempts. (3-3)

Reading, Pa. (July 21, 2008) - Alvernia College junior Brian Longo (Uncasville, Conn./Montville) has been selected as the President of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) for the Middle Atlantic States Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) for the 2008-09 school year.

In their final year of PAC competition, the Alvernia Women's Basketball Team gave a run to remember, including memorable final clashes with conference rival Gwynedd-Mercy. Though the young team came up just short, they established the building blocks for the future, upon entering the MAC Freedom Conference in 2008-09.

Reading, Pa. (May 27, 2008) - Alvernia College senior Dale Curry (Philadelphia, Pa./Father Judge) was named Second Team ABCA All-American.

Curry, a preseason All-American and the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference Player of the Year, was one of four players to bat .400 or better for the Crusaders this season with a .424 average. He was second on the team in hits (64), led the team in runs (49) and tied for the team lead in walks (25).

(May 8, 2008) - The Alvernia College Department of Athletics and Recreation honored its 2007-08 award winners at the 20th annual awards banquet Wednesday evening hosted by The Sheraton, Reading. Seniors Dale Curry (Philadelphia, Pa./Father Judge), Tom Novak (Pottstown, Pa./Pottsgrove), and Amy Sikorski (Topton, Pa./Brandywine Heights) were named the Outstanding Senior Athletes.
