Reading, Pa. (May 16, 2008) - Friday's ECAC South Region Baseball games scheduled at Alvernia College have been postponed due to rain. The ECAC schedule for Saturday will be 9:00 a.m. (#2 Wesley vs. #3 Delaware Valley), 12:00 p.m. (#1 Alvernia vs. #4 Washington & Jefferson), and 3:00 p.m. (ECAC Championship Final).

Reading, PA (May 13, 2008) - Senior attack McKenna Shafer (Delran, N.J./Cinnaminson) highlighted the women's lacrosse season with a some spectacular individual efforts. She broke the season record in goals with 54 and points with 63 becoming the career leader in both categories with 159 career goals and 188 career points. Shafer was named the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference Player of the Week on April 14 after scoring 14 goals with one assist in a 1-2 week. Her week was highlighted by a nine-goal effort in a 20-11 win over Immaculata.

Wednesday May 7, 2008 (Reading, PA) - Alvernia softball had three players honored with PAC awards to cap off their record breaking season of 31 wins. Freshman Rhiannon Sorrentino (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall) earned PAC Rookie of the Year honors as announced by the conference on Tuesday. Also earning all-conference honors were freshman shortstop Michele Kassab (Pompton Lakes, NJ/Pompton Lakes) and Emily Williams (Minersville, PA/Nativity) who were both named to the All-PAC First Team.

Reading, Pa. (May 12, 2008) - Seven players from the Alvernia College baseball team were named to the All-Conference teams by the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference led by senior catcher Dale Curry (Philadelphia, Pa./Father Judge) who earned the Crusaders' seventh Player of the Year award in the last eight years and freshman pitcher Chuck Nicholas (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown) who earned PAC Rookie of the Year.

Batted .600 (7-12) in two conference matchups for the Crusaders this week. Two doubles, one triple, and two homeruns contributed to four RBIs for Sorrentino, also plated 6 runs scored.

(May 8, 2008) - The participating coaches in the 2008 Pennsylvania Athletic Conference Baseball Championship selected an All-Tournament Team on Thursday with eight players from champion Gwynedd-Mercy College making the squad including junior infielder Tim McMenamin (Maple Shade, N.J./Maple Shade) and sophomore outfielder Dan Strack (Langhorne, Pa./Holy Ghost) who were named Tournament Co-MVPs.

Wednesday May 7, 2008 (Reading, PA) - The Crusader softball team (31-12) fell to Lake Erie College (22-18) this afternoon in the first round of the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships. Alvernia battled back from an early 2-0 deficit to take the 3-2 late in the game, but could not hold off the Lake Erie rally. Senior Jackie Rhoads (Dillsburg, PA/Northern York) was 2-for-3 with three RBIs on the day.

(May 3, 2008) - Centenary College (20-18) scored 10 runs in the third inning and senior Chris Mattson (West Deptford, N.J./West Deptford) threw a complete game as the third-seeded Cyclones advances to the final series in the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference Baseball Championships with a 14-4 win over top-seeded Alvernia College (31-12) Saturday evening at Bear Stadium.
