Reading, Pa. (Aug. 18, 2010) - Alvernia University announced Monday the hiring of Jason Kilgore as the head coach of Men's and Women's Track and Field. Kilgore replaces Laura Gingrich who returned to take the reigns of the Crusader field hockey program.

The Crusaders placed last in the first contest of the outdoor season at Lebanon Valley College with highlighted performances by Brian Nerney (Middletown, NJ./ Red Bank Catholic) in the high jump and Freshman, Joshua Fretz (Oley, Pa./ Oley) in the triple jump and the 400 meter. The Crusaders then competed in the Danny Curran Invitational at Widener where two athletes managed to qualify for the MAC Outdoor Championship, Brennon Ferrizzi (Boyertown, Pa./ Boyertown) ran the 200 meter in 23.71 seconds and Brian Nerney jumped 6 feet 2 inches in the high jump

Springfield, Ma. (May 15, 2010) - Sophomore Brian Nerney (Middletown, NJ/Red Bank Catholic) and junior Brennon Ferrizzi (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown) travelled to Springfield, Ma. to compete in the ECAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Nerney competed in the high jump while Ferrizzi ran the 400m.

(May 1, 2010) Reading, Pa - Alvernia University hosted the first annual Reading Wounded Warrior 5k Race/Walk to benefit the Wounded Warrior Project, a national organization supporting wounded veterans. The race is hosted around the nation to honor and support the daily sacrifices made by the brave men and women in all branches of the United States Military. The mission of the Wounded Warrior Project is to honor and empower wounded warriors by raising awareness and enlisting the public's aid for the needs of severely injured service men and women, to help severely injured service members aid and assist each other and to provide unique, direct programs and services to meet the needs of severely injured service members.

Chester, Pa. (Sat. May 8, 2010) - Alvernia competed at the 2010 Middle Atlantic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships over the past three days hosted by Widener University at the Leslie C. Quick Jr. Stadium. The Crusaders' performances were highlighted by Brennon Ferrizzi (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown) who won the 400m with a time of 50.14 and Brian Nerney (Middletown, NJ/Red Bank Catholic) who finished second in the high jump with a leap of 1.98 meters.

West Chester, Pa. (April 10, 2010) - The Alvernia University outdoor track and field team competed in the West Chester Invitational on April 9th and 10th. The Crusaders were paced by Brennon Ferrizzi (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown) and Joshua Fretz (Oley, Pa./Oley) who both qualified for the MAC Championships in long jump. On the women's side, Kate Wimberg (Galloway, NJ/Sacred Heart) finished eigth in the discus throw and 12th in the shot put.

Reading, Pa. (April 7, 2010) - 14 Alvernia student-athletes earned recognition on the Middle Atlantic Conferences Winter Academic Honor Roll. The Honor Roll is comprised of student-athletes of sophomore class standing or higher who participated in a varsity-level sport and registered a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 (4.00 scale) or higher and completed the playing season in good standing.
