Aston, Pa. (Jan. 26, 2007) – The Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC) released its All-Academic Team for the Fall semester on Friday with 55 Alvernia College student-athletes represented.  This is the highest number of Alvernia student-athletes to make the team in any one season.

“I’m proud to see our student-athletes continue to build on strong academic and athletic traditions of the College,” said Alvernia Athletic Director John McCloskey.  “The increasing number of students earning this honor shows their dedication in both aspects of college life.”

The field hockey team led the way for the Crusaders in the fall with 14 of 23 players on the roster being named All-Academic.  That also sets a record for the most players from a single team to be honored at Alvernia.

In all, the 12 member institutions of the PAC placed 516 student-athletes on the All-Academic Team.

“I am pleased to announce that in keeping with the missions of our member institutions and the PAC mission of supporting those goals, the 516 student-athletes named to the Fall All-Academic Team marks an increase of over 20 recipients from last Fall,” said PAC Commissioner Amy Frankenstein.  “The conference is proud of its student-athletes for recognizing the importance of their education and how their participation in athletics is part of the total educational package offered to them at the PAC colleges and universities.”

The PAC All-Academic award is earned by each student-athlete that meets the NCAA Division III eligibility requirements, earns varsity status in their respective sport and earns a minimum semester grade point average (GPA) of 3.20.  The team consisted of student-athletes from the sports of men’s cross country, women’s cross country, field hockey, men’s soccer, women’s soccer, women’s tennis and volleyball.

Of the 516 student-athletes on this squad, 42 were named on their respective All-PAC First Team, 36 were named on their respective All-PAC Second Team, 11 received Honorable Mention and 46 were placed on their respective Push the Rock All-Sportsmanship Team.

At the conclusion of the spring semester, the PAC will honor student-athletes in the sports of baseball, men’s basketball, women’s basketball, golf, men’s lacrosse, women’s lacrosse, softball and men’s tennis.

Please note the following representations: 1st = First Team All-PAC, 2nd = Second Team All-PAC, HM = All-PAC Honorable Mention and PTR = Push the Rock Sportsmanship Award.
