Aston, Pa. (May 10, 2007) – Alvernia College senior Melissa Senick (Reading, PA/Central Catholic) and junior McKenna Shafer (Delran, NJ/Cinnaminson) were named to the All-Conference First Team by the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference on Thursday.  Senior midfielder Lisa Ross (Quakertown, PA/Quakertown) was named to the second team and sophomore Kristen Rutledge (Howell, NJ/Howell) was named to the All-Sportsmanship Team.

            Senick is making her second appearance on the All-PAC Team moving up from honorable mention a season ago.  Ross is a three-time selection earning Second Team honors for the second straight season and Shafer is making her first appearance on the team.

            Senick, who earned defensive MVP for both Women’s Lacrosse and Field Hockey this year, scored one goal and two assists, and picked up a team-high 42 ground balls.  She also led the team in cause turnovers with 35.

            Shafer led the team in scoring with 38 goals and nine assists for 47 points.  She finished the season six goals short of the school record for goals in a season which she shares with Stacie Arnosky (’04).  She tallied two game-winning goals, 21 ground balls, and 12 draw controls this season.

            Ross, who joins Arnosky as the only three-time Women’s Lacrosse All-PAC selections at Alvernia, finished the season second in scoring with 29 points on 20 goals and nine assists.  She also totaled 33 ground balls and a team-high 20 draw controls.

            Rutledge finished the season with 10 ground balls, one draw control, and five caused turnovers.

Athletes of the Week
Softball
Batted .600 (7-12) in two conference matchups for the Crusaders this week. Two doubles, one triple, and two homeruns contributed to four RBIs for Sorrentino, also plated 6 runs scored.
Baseball
Batted .667 (10-15) with three doubles, one triple, and three RBIs in a 2 win, 2 lose week for the Crusaders. Also scored 9 runs and was perfect in stolen base attempts. (3-3)

Reading, PA (May 13, 2008) - Senior attack McKenna Shafer (Delran, N.J./Cinnaminson) highlighted the women's lacrosse season with a some spectacular individual efforts. She broke the season record in goals with 54 and points with 63 becoming the career leader in both categories with 159 career goals and 188 career points. Shafer was named the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference Player of the Week on April 14 after scoring 14 goals with one assist in a 1-2 week. Her week was highlighted by a nine-goal effort in a 20-11 win over Immaculata.
