Reading, PA (December 2, 2007) – The Crusaders began their first season under new head coach Bill Bonewitz with two wins at the Shenandoah Tournament. They outscored their opponents 12-0 at the tournament after they beat host Shenandoah 5-0 and took the tournament title with a 7-0 victory over Trinity College. Senior Brandi Light (Myerstown, PA/Tulpehocken) wrapped up the tournament with four goals and an assist.
Alvernia then dropped three straight games including their PAC opener to Centenary College 2-1. They rebounded to even their PAC record at 1-1 with a convincing 4-0 victory over College of Notre Dame in a game that saw freshman Casey Weber score a goal and assist on two others. The Crusaders managed to win only one out of their next five games with a 5-0 PAC win over Cedar Crest. During this five game span they battled to two double-overtime ties to Bryn Mawr and Albright.
Alvernia regrouped and rebounded to win two out of their next three games with wins over PSU-Berks and Immaculata University and a 3-2 loss to Arcadia University. In the loss to Arcadia, Crusader senior Brandi Light shattered the career record for both goals (33) and points (77).
Alvernia was unable to manage a win after their 6-1 win over Immaculata and ended their season without a playoff birth after three losses and a tie. Light tallied her third hat trick of the season in Alvernia’s 3-3 tie against Cabrini College. Their season ended with a tight 1-0 loss to Gwynedd-Mercy.
