Reading, Pa. (Mar. 19, 2008) – Alvernia College junior Terrence Shawell (Pottstown, Pa./Pottstown) was named to the D3hoops.com Men’s Basketball Mid-Atlantic All-Region First Team on Wednesday. Shawell is the first Crusader to be named to the first team since the award started in the 2001-02 season.

Shawell, the Player of the Year in the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC), led the Crusaders to their third straight regular season conference title this season. He scored double figures in all 27 games going for 20-plus points 16 times including a season-high 35 points in a home win over Gwynedd-Mercy.

Shawell was a three-time PAC player of the week and was named ECAC South Region Player of the Week and a member of the D3hoops.com Team of the Week on Jan. 23 after averaging 32.7 points and 5.0 rebounds in a 3-0 conference week. He was also named to the All-Tournament Team at the Sponaugle New Year’s Tip-Off Tournament hosted by Franklin & Marshall.

Shawell will now be under consideration for the D3hoops.com All-America Teams which we be announced during the broadcast of the NCAA Division III Final Four this weekend in Salem, Va.

Ray Strickland was named to the D3hoops.com All-Region Second Team in 2004, and Zach Straining was named to the Second Team in 2006.

Athletes of the Week
Softball
Batted .600 (7-12) in two conference matchups for the Crusaders this week. Two doubles, one triple, and two homeruns contributed to four RBIs for Sorrentino, also plated 6 runs scored.
Baseball
Batted .667 (10-15) with three doubles, one triple, and three RBIs in a 2 win, 2 lose week for the Crusaders. Also scored 9 runs and was perfect in stolen base attempts. (3-3)
