Dallas, Pa. (Mar. 25, 2008) – Freshman third baseman Reid Martin (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata) scored the only run of the game for Alvernia College in a 6-1 loss to Misericordia University Tuesday afternoon in a Pennsylvania Athletic Conference baseball game snapping a five-game win streak.

The Cougars (5-11, 1-2 PAC) scored an unearned run in the first and took a 4-0 lead through four inning before the Crusaders (14-5, 4-1 PAC) got on the board in the fifth. Martin reached on an error with one out and stole second. He moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on Eric Focht’s (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus) groundout to shortstop.

Three different pitchers combined to hold the Crusaders to just four hits. The team had been averaging better than 10 hits per game entering the contest. The Alvernia defense committed four errors in the game leading to half of the Misericordia runs.

Alvernia will have a day off before a rescheduled game on Thursday at Gwynedd-Mercy College which will wrap up the three game series with the Griffins.

Baseball
Batted .667 (10-15) with three doubles, one triple, and three RBIs in a 2 win, 2 lose week for the Crusaders. Also scored 9 runs and was perfect in stolen base attempts. (3-3)
Softball
Batted .600 (7-12) in two conference matchups for the Crusaders this week. Two doubles, one triple, and two homeruns contributed to four RBIs for Sorrentino, also plated 6 runs scored.
