Freshman Is Second Crusader To Win This Season

Reading, Pa. (Mar. 25, 2008) – Alvernia College freshman Tim Ahlquist (Millville, N.J./Millville) was named Pennsylvania Athletic Conference Baseball Player of the Week on Tuesday by the organization for the week ending March 23. He is the second Alvernia player to earn the award this season following senior Dale Curry (Philadelphia, Pa./Father Judge) who won a week ago.

In a short, two-game week Ahlquist batted .375 with three base hits in eight at-bats. He scored once and knocked in two as the Crusaders swept a doubleheader from Misericordia University on Thursday afternoon. He also notched two walks and a stolen base.

Ahlquist was perfect in the field on 11 chances recording a pair of putouts and nine assists. Alvernia won the opener, 5-4, in extra innings and took game two 5-0.

Batted .600 (7-12) in two conference matchups for the Crusaders this week. Two doubles, one triple, and two homeruns contributed to four RBIs for Sorrentino, also plated 6 runs scored.

Curry Named Player Of The Year

Reading, Pa. (May 12, 2008) - Seven players from the Alvernia College baseball team were named to the All-Conference teams by the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference led by senior catcher Dale Curry (Philadelphia, Pa./Father Judge) who earned the Crusaders' seventh Player of the Year award in the last eight years and freshman pitcher Chuck Nicholas (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown) who earned PAC Rookie of the Year.

Boyertown, Pa. (May 8, 2008) - The participating coaches in the 2008 Pennsylvania Athletic Conference Baseball Championship selected an All-Tournament Team on Thursday with eight players from champion Gwynedd-Mercy College making the squad including junior infielder Tim McMenamin (Maple Shade, N.J./Maple Shade) and sophomore outfielder Dan Strack (Langhorne, Pa./Holy Ghost) who were named Tournament Co-MVPs.
