Crusaders Score All Straight Set Wins

Reading, Pa. (Mar. 25, 2008) – Alvernia College lost just eight games in three doubles matches and cruised to straight set victories in all six singles matches for a 9-0 win over crosstown rival Albright College Tuesday afternoon in non-conference men’s tennis action on the Albright campus.

Sophomore Zach Lockwood (Reading, Pa./Conrad Weiser) and senior Phil Snyder (Easton, Pa./Notre Dame) teamed for an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles and both won handily in singles play at No. 1 and No. 2 respectively.

Seniors David Schaeffer (Pottstown, Pa./Pottstown) and Kyle Levengood (Fleetwood, Pa./Brandywine Heights) also won 8-4 at No. 2 doubles, and both won by identical 6-1, 6-0 scores at No. 3 and No. 4 singles.

Sophomore Ryan Lineaweaver (Robesonia, Pa./ELCO), who was named to the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference Men’s Tennis Honor Roll this week, teamed with freshman Aaron Dearstyne (Sinking Spring, Pa./Governor Mifflin) for an 8-0 win at No. 3 doubles. Lineaweaver followed with a 6-2, 7-5 win at No. 5 singles and freshman Eric Snyder (Easton, Pa./Notre Dame) wrapped up the day with a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 6 singles.

Alvernia will return to the conference schedule with a trip to Marywood University this Thursday.

Softball
Batted .600 (7-12) in two conference matchups for the Crusaders this week. Two doubles, one triple, and two homeruns contributed to four RBIs for Sorrentino, also plated 6 runs scored.
Baseball
Batted .667 (10-15) with three doubles, one triple, and three RBIs in a 2 win, 2 lose week for the Crusaders. Also scored 9 runs and was perfect in stolen base attempts. (3-3)

Friday April 4, 2008 (Reading, PA) - All home and away Alvernia contests scheduled for today have been cancelled due to inclement weather. The home baseball game against Neumann will now be played tomorrow at 2:00 pm. The baseball team will then travel to Neumann Sunday April 6th for a 12:00 noon start. The Men's Tennis match at King's will now be played Wednesday April 23rd at 4:00 p.m. Additionally, the Men's Tennis start time for tomorrow's home match against Cabrini has been delayed to a 3:00 pm start time. The Golf match scheduled to be played today at Moravian has not yet been rescheduled.
