Reading, Pa. (Apr. 12, 2008) – Senior attack McKenna Shafer (Delran, N.J./Cinnaminson) scored nine goals to pace the offense as Alvernia College defeated Immaculata University, 20-11 Saturday afternoon in Pennsylvania Athletic Conference women’s lacrosse action at Alvernia.

Alvernia opened up with back-to-back goals from Tara Walls (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) and Katie O’Brien (Boothwyn, Pa./Garnet Valley) and the Crusaders (2-8, 2-3 PAC) never trailed. Shafer scored her first two separated by just under 60 seconds giving the hosts a 4-1 lead eight minutes into play.

The scoring went back and forth for a time before Alvernia capped the first half with the final five goals of the frame for a 12-5 lead at the break. Walls, who opened the scoring, tallied the last two goals of the half and finished the day with four goals and an assist.

Shafter opened the second half with her fifth goal of the day and added her sixth seven minutes later. Walls scored midway through the half and Shafer scored three of the last four for Alvernia.

Junior Janelle Fulmer (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus) and sophomore Amanda Odenwalt (Lancaster, Pa./The Janus School) combined to make 14 saves in the win.

Alvernia will travel to Eastern University on Tuesday.

Baseball
Batted .667 (10-15) with three doubles, one triple, and three RBIs in a 2 win, 2 lose week for the Crusaders. Also scored 9 runs and was perfect in stolen base attempts. (3-3)
Softball
Batted .600 (7-12) in two conference matchups for the Crusaders this week. Two doubles, one triple, and two homeruns contributed to four RBIs for Sorrentino, also plated 6 runs scored.

Reading, PA (May 13, 2008) - Senior attack McKenna Shafer (Delran, N.J./Cinnaminson) highlighted the women's lacrosse season with a some spectacular individual efforts. She broke the season record in goals with 54 and points with 63 becoming the career leader in both categories with 159 career goals and 188 career points. Shafer was named the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference Player of the Week on April 14 after scoring 14 goals with one assist in a 1-2 week. Her week was highlighted by a nine-goal effort in a 20-11 win over Immaculata.
