Misericordia Pulls Away For PAC Win
Shafer Scores Six For Crusaders

Reading, Pa. (Apr. 23, 2008) – Alvernia College senior McKenna Shafer (Delran, N.J./Cinnaminson) scored a game-high six goals, but Misericordia University posted 14 second-half goals to break a 7-7 halftime tie en route to a 21-14 victory Wednesday afternoon Pennsylvania Athletic Conference women’s lacrosse action at Schlager Memorial Field.

Shafer scored the first four goals of the game for Alvernia (2-13, 2-8 PAC) and the Crusaders had an early 4-2 lead. Sophomore Tara Walls (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) scored for a 5-2 lead, but back came the Cougars (7-8, 5-5 PAC) with three straight to tie the score at 5-all.

Alvernia freshman Felicia Sippel (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Hubert) scored for a 6-5 lead and Shafer’s fifth of the day put Alvernia up 7-6, but once again the Cougars were able to answer forging a 7-7 tie at the break.

Sippel netted her second goal of the game early in the second half, but Misericordia scored four straight and seven of the next eight for a commanding lead. Alvernia senior Katie O’Brien (Boothwyn, Pa./Garnet Valley) finished the day with two goals, as did Walls, and Sippel totaled four.

Alvernia junior Janelle Fulmer (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus) made 11 saves in net for the Crusader while counterpart Allison Hoffer (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) stopped seven for the guests.

Baseball
Batted .667 (10-15) with three doubles, one triple, and three RBIs in a 2 win, 2 lose week for the Crusaders. Also scored 9 runs and was perfect in stolen base attempts. (3-3)
Softball
Batted .600 (7-12) in two conference matchups for the Crusaders this week. Two doubles, one triple, and two homeruns contributed to four RBIs for Sorrentino, also plated 6 runs scored.

Reading, PA (May 13, 2008) - Senior attack McKenna Shafer (Delran, N.J./Cinnaminson) highlighted the women's lacrosse season with a some spectacular individual efforts. She broke the season record in goals with 54 and points with 63 becoming the career leader in both categories with 159 career goals and 188 career points. Shafer was named the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference Player of the Week on April 14 after scoring 14 goals with one assist in a 1-2 week. Her week was highlighted by a nine-goal effort in a 20-11 win over Immaculata.

Freshman Brittany Veith (Conestoga, Pa./Penn Manor) was honored on the All-Sportsmanship Team.
