Friday April 25, 2008 (Reading, PA) - Alvernia College swept Cedar Crest College this afternoon in a Pennsylvania Athletic Conference double-header at Alvernia.
Michelle Jensen (Holland, NJ/Delaware Valley) improved to an impressive 14-3 on the season with the six-hit complete game victory in the first game. In the second game
Emily Williams (Minersville, PA/Nativity) held Cedar Crest scoreless through seven innings for her tenth win of the season.
Game one saw Alvernia jump ahead 1-0 when lead-off batter
Rhiannon Sorrentino (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall) took a full count pitch over the right field fence for a homerun. The Crusaders added one more in the third inning thanks to back to back doubles from Sorrentino and
Lauren Crimi (Nazareth, PA/Notre Dame). In the fourth inning Alverna followed a two-out fielding error with two singles to plate another two runs.
Cedar Crest added their lone run of the game in the sixth inning after Maria Mallery reached base on an error and came around to score on a bases loaded walk.
Alvernia began the second game with another first inning homerun, this time from
Jackie Rhoads (Dillsburg, PA/Northern York) to give the Crusaders the 1-0 lead. A two RBI-single from Crimi in the sixth inning would bring around Alvernia's two other runs of the game.
The Crusaders will travel to Centenary tomorrow for a doubleheader beginning at 1:00 pm. This will be their last regular-season conference double-header before playoffs begin.
