BOX SCORE

Wednesday April 30, 2008 (Reading, PA) - Third seeded Alvernia College will advance to the PAC Championship Tournament this weekend with a 5-0 win over #6 seed Marywood University.   Freshman hurler Michelle Jensen (Holland, NJ/Delaware Valley) threw the full seven inning shut-out and allowed only five hits.

After stranding two base runners in the first inning the Crusaders would take the 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning.  After two quick pop-outs catcher Colleen Ambrosius (Philadelphia, PA/St. Basil Academy) was hit by a pitch and after a passed ball and a wild pitch found herself on third base with two outs.  Janelle Lynch (Macungie, PA/Brandywine) earned a walk and a double steal would plate Alvernia's first run of the game.  Lynch, who advanced all the way to third base on the double steal came around to score on a two-out single from Rhiannon Sorrentino (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall).

Alvernia added an insurance run in the fifth inning when Michele Kassab (Pompton Lakes, NJ/Pompton Lakes) connected for a one-out single up the middle, and came around to score when Dina Chiappelli (Shippensburg, PA/Shippensburg) drilled a line drive that found its way through the left fielder's glove.

Lynch lead off the sixth with her second bunt single of the game and quickly stole second base.  Sorrentino followed with her second single of the game to score Lynch and was sacrificed ahead by Lauren Crimi (Nazareth, PA/Notre Dame).  Jackie Rhoads (Dillsburg, PA/Northern York) connected for Alvernia's third single of the inning with a frozen rope down the left field line to put runner's on the corners.  Designated hitter Emily Williams (Minersville, PA/Nativity) followed with a line shot to the center fielder to score Sorrentino for Alvernia's fifth run.

Marywood would threaten briefly in the seventh inning when they put runners on first and second with two out, but starter Jensen recovered and struck out Marywood's final batter.

With the win Alvernia is 31-9 on the season and will advance to the four team PAC Championship Tournament this weekend at Misericordia University.  The Crusaders will face #2 Neumann College Saturday May 3rd at 10:00 am.  Complete championship schedule and more information can be found here.
