Senior Catcher Earns Another Postseason Award

Reading, Pa. (May 27, 2008) – Alvernia College senior Dale Curry (Philadelphia, Pa./Father Judge) was named Third Team D3baseball.com All-American.

Curry, a preseason All-American and the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference Player of the Year, was one of four players to bat .400 or better for the Crusaders this season with a .424 average. He was second on the team in hits (64), led the team in runs (49) and tied for the team lead in walks (25). Curry paced the team with 21 doubles, 10 home runs, and 64 RBIs. Dale also finished nationally ranked 78th or better in 8 categories. He was 8th in the nation in RBIs, 9th in doubles, 11th in RBIs per game, 17th in doubles per game, 31st in slugging percentage, 51st in home runs, 72nd in batting average, and 78th in home runs per game.

The internet site began as Division III Baseball Online in the mid-1990s and was launched under its current name in February of 2007 as part of the D3sports.com family which includes D3football.com and D3hoops.com.

Curry is the second Crusader to earn All-American honors from D3baseball.com. Last year current New York Mets prospect Zach Lutz was named D3baseball.com’s National Player of the Year. He was selected in the 5th round of the 2007 First Year Player Draft by the New York Mets.

Softball
Batted .600 (7-12) in two conference matchups for the Crusaders this week. Two doubles, one triple, and two homeruns contributed to four RBIs for Sorrentino, also plated 6 runs scored.
Baseball
Batted .667 (10-15) with three doubles, one triple, and three RBIs in a 2 win, 2 lose week for the Crusaders. Also scored 9 runs and was perfect in stolen base attempts. (3-3)

Spartansburg, S.C. (Aug. 6, 2008) - Alvernia College senior James Geosits (Wyomissing, Pa./Wilson) represented his summer league team, the Carolina Chaos, in the Southern Collegiate Baseball League All-Star Game in mid July. He also participated in the All-Star Game Home Run Derby.

The two-time Pennsylvania Athletic Conference player of the year will make his third straight All-Star appearance this summer representing the Midland Rockhounds in the 2008 Texas League All-Star game next Wednesday in Springfield, Missouri.
