Hackettstown, N.J. (Apr. 26, 2008) – Alvernia College scored the final two goals of the game, but could not find the equalizer in a 9-8 loss at Centenary in the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference regular season finale.

Freshman midfielder Chris Bakes (Barto, Pa./Boyertown) led the Crusaders with three goals and sophomore Chris Baker (Exeter, Pa./Exeter) and freshman Ben Stidham (Glen Burnie, Md./Cardinal Gibbons) scored two goals apiece.

The first quarter of play featured nearly half of the total goals with Centenary taking a 5-3 lead after 15 minutes of play. Alvernia trimmed the gap to one by halftime as Stidham and Bakes both scored in the second quarter for a 6-5 score at the break.

Centenary scored the only goal of the third quarter, but Alvernia senior Tom Novak (Pottstown, Pa./Pottsgrove) answered in the first 30 seconds of the fourth to pull back within one. The Cyclones tallied twice in the next five minutes for a three goal lead, 9-6, and Baker and Bakes both scored for Alvernia to pull back within one, but the Crusaders could not complete the comeback.

Alvernia goalie Joe Cepparulo (Southampton, Pa./Archbishop Wood) made six saves in 60 minutes and counterpart Brian Triolo stopped 20 for the hosts.

Softball
Batted .600 (7-12) in two conference matchups for the Crusaders this week. Two doubles, one triple, and two homeruns contributed to four RBIs for Sorrentino, also plated 6 runs scored.
Baseball
Batted .667 (10-15) with three doubles, one triple, and three RBIs in a 2 win, 2 lose week for the Crusaders. Also scored 9 runs and was perfect in stolen base attempts. (3-3)

Reading, PA (May 19, 2008) - Senior midfielder Tom Novak (Pottstown, PA/Pottsgrove) led the Alvernia offense this season with 34 goals and 15 assists. His 49 points this season helped him to break the career record for points with 130, surpassing the previous record of 81. He also set the record for career goals with 93 and career assists with 39. Novak scored at least one goal in every game this season and had a season-high five goals twice. For his efforts Novak was honored with a Second Team All-PAC selection.
