Recker Named To Third All-Star Team

Reading, Pa. (June 18, 2008) - Former Alvernia College catcher Anthony Recker continues to impress at every level.  The two-time Pennsylvania Athletic Conference player of the year will make his third straight All-Star appearance this summer representing the Midland RockHounds in the 2008 Texas League All-Star game next Wednesday in Springfield, Missouri.
    In 2006 Recker, an 18th round selection of the Oakland A's in the 2005 amateur draft,  played in the MidWest All-Star game as a member of the Kane County Cougars, and represented the Stockton Ports of the California League in 2007 against the best from the Carolina League.
    Through Tuesday Recker is second on the RockHounds team in batting at .297 with 17 doubles, six home runs, 40 RBIs, and 30 runs scored.

Athletes of the Week
Baseball
Batted .667 (10-15) with three doubles, one triple, and three RBIs in a 2 win, 2 lose week for the Crusaders. Also scored 9 runs and was perfect in stolen base attempts. (3-3)
Softball
Batted .600 (7-12) in two conference matchups for the Crusaders this week. Two doubles, one triple, and two homeruns contributed to four RBIs for Sorrentino, also plated 6 runs scored.

Spartansburg, S.C. (Aug. 6, 2008) - Alvernia College senior James Geosits (Wyomissing, Pa./Wilson) represented his summer league team, the Carolina Chaos, in the Southern Collegiate Baseball League All-Star Game in mid July. He also participated in the All-Star Game Home Run Derby.

Reading, Pa. (June 19, 2008) - Alvernia College had 60 of the 462 student-athletes honored on the All-Pennsylvania Athletic Conference Academic Team. The baseball program has the most members with 14 and softball wasn't far behind with 11 members.

Wednesday June 18, 2008 (Reading, PA) - Freshman pitcher Chuck Nicholas (Boyertown, PA/Boyertown) was named the ECAC South Rookie of the Year and was named to the Second Team, senior catcher Dale Curry (Philadelphia, PA/Father Judge) added to his accolades with a spot on the ECAC South First Team as announced by the conference on Wednesday morning.
