Baseball Leads With 14 Members

Reading, Pa. (June 19, 2008) – Alvernia College had 60 of the 462 student-athletes honored on the All-Pennsylvania Athletic Conference Academic Team. The baseball program has the most members with 14 and softball wasn't far behind with 11 members.

The PAC All-Academic award is earned by each student-athlete that meets the NCAA Division III eligibility requirements, earns varsity status in their respective sport, and earns a minimum semester grade point average (GPA) of 3.2. The team consists of student-athletes from Men’s Basketball, Women’s Basketball, Baseball, Softball, Men’s Lacrosse, Women’s Lacrosse, Golf, and Men’s Tennis. 

“It is my pleasure to announce that 462 PAC student-athletes have achieved the level of academic success needed to be named to the Spring 2008 PAC All-Academic Team,” said PAC Commissioner, Amy Friedman. “These student-athletes have assumed leadership roles on their campuses by demonstrating that a complete education includes both academics and athletics.”

Of the 462 student-athletes receiving this award, 32 were First Team All-PAC in their respective sport, 38 were named to the Second Team All-PAC in their respective sport, 11 received Honorable Mention and 40 were recipients of individual Sportsmanship Awards.

The following student-athletes are members of the Winter/Spring All-Academic Team. Please note the following representations: 1st = First Team All-PAC, 2nd = Second Team All-PAC, HM = Honorable Mention and S = Sportsmanship Award.

Athletes of the Week
Softball
Batted .600 (7-12) in two conference matchups for the Crusaders this week. Two doubles, one triple, and two homeruns contributed to four RBIs for Sorrentino, also plated 6 runs scored.
Baseball
Batted .667 (10-15) with three doubles, one triple, and three RBIs in a 2 win, 2 lose week for the Crusaders. Also scored 9 runs and was perfect in stolen base attempts. (3-3)

Reading, Pa. (May 27, 2008) - Alvernia College senior Dale Curry (Philadelphia, Pa./Father Judge) was named Second Team ABCA All-American.

Curry, a preseason All-American and the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference Player of the Year, was one of four players to bat .400 or better for the Crusaders this season with a .424 average. He was second on the team in hits (64), led the team in runs (49) and tied for the team lead in walks (25).

Seniors Dale Curry (Philadelphia, Pa./Father Judge), Tom Novak (Pottstown, Pa./Pottsgrove), and Amy Sikorski (Topton, Pa./Brandywine Heights) were named the Outstanding Senior Athletes.
