Reading, Pa. (October 28, 2009) – Crusader Softball Head Coach Lindsay Berger (Seton Hall, 2005) beat out 250 other hopefuls to land a softball player role in an upcoming major motion picture starring Reese Witherspoon, Jack Nicholson , Owen Wilson and Paul Rudd. Coach Berger will be playing a member of the Australian National team as they take on the USA National Team in a currently untitled movie directed by James L. Brooks.
Berger attended an open audition for softball players in late June at Drexel University and was one of only 15 players of 250 to get a call back for the second day. She then received notice in September that she had been selected for a role with filming to take place at Temple University in October.
Coach Berger attended practice and rehearsal for three days where she had the opportunity to practice under coaching legend Sue Enquist (UCLA) who is coordinating all softball action within the movie. Berger was joined by about 30 other softball players including Olympians Crystal Bustos, Lovie Jung and Andrea Duran, as well as various other USA National Team Members, NCAA Division I National Champions and professional softball players.
“The opportunity to practice with Coach Enquist and some of the best softball players in the world was an incredible experience that trumped even being in the movie," said Berger. "I was able to learn so much from observing and talking to Coach Enquist as well as from practicing with such high level players on the field. I hope to implement many of the skills, drills and lessons learned from my time with Coach Enquist into the Crusader Softball program.”
Berger filmed for one day at the Temple-Ambler softball field that had been transformed to look like a USA home field for an international game. With both the USA and Australian flags flying in center field Berger filmed game scenes and post game scenes directed by James L. Brooks that included Reese Witherspoon.
“It was incredible to see the amount of preparation, manpower and time that goes into what will eventually be about 30 seconds on the big screen,” relayed Berger after wrapping up her portion of the shoot.
The romantic comedy where Witherspoon's character is a softball player is slated for a December 2010 release.
