BOX SCORE

Radnor, Pa. (Oct. 29, 2009) - Freshman forward Lauren Guido (Fleetwood, Pa./Fleetwood) netted the game-winner with under four minutes to play as Alvernia University (11-8) capped the regular season with a 2-1 win at Cabrini College (8-10) Thursday afternoon in non-conference field hockey action.

The Cavaliers, who finished the game being outshot 22-11, opened the scoring with a quick goal just four minutes into play.  Lindsey Atzert drove home the first goal unassisted from 10 yards out.

The Crusaders ripped eight of their 11 first-half shots on net, but Cavalier netminder Caitlin Donahue was up to the task each time.

Three minutes into the second half Alvernia finally broke through when Katy Eby (New Holland, Pa./Garden Spot) setup Miranda Peto (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville) for the equalizer in the 38th minute.  Eby sent the ball toward the net and Peto beat Donahue on the tip-in.

The game remained tied until the last minutes when Sam Landis (Watsontown, Pa./Warrior Run) assisted Guido on the game-winner.  Landis sent a cross through the circle and Guido smacked the one-timer back across the face of the net inside the far post.

Alvernia goalie Abby Eby (New Holland, Pa./Garden Spot) made eight saves in the win.

The Crusaders will miss the Commonwealth playoffs, but will await a possible invitation into the ECAC South Region Tournament.
