Sophomore Goalie Earns Her Second Conference Weekly Award

Reading, Pa. (November 2, 2009) - Sophomore goalie Abby Eby (New Holland, Pa./Garden Spot) was named the Commomwealth Conference Goalie of the Week as announced by the conference on Monday afternoon. This is Eby's second Conference weekly award after being named the Goalie of the Week on September 22nd.

This week Eby posted a shutout 1-0 win over Albright College followed by a 2-1 win over Cabrini College to wrap up the Crusaders regular season.  Eby has played in all 19 games for Alvernia this season finishing with an 11-8 record and seven shutouts.  She has allowed just 43 goals in 264 shots faced for a .758 save percentage.

Reading, Pa. (August 26, 2010) - Alvernia Field Hockey was selected to finish tied for fourth out of eight teams in the Commonwealth Conference this season as voted on by head coaches. Defending Commonwealth Conference champion Messiah College took the top slot, while Lebanon Valley was picked to finish second.

Reading, Pa. (April 20, 2010) - Alvernia University announced today that Laura Gingrich has been named Head Field Hockey Coach. Gingrich, who will remain as Associate Athletic Director and Senior Woman Administrator, returns to the take over the program she guided from 1999-2007. She replaces Nicole Rhoads, who after two years at the helm will take the head coach position at her alma mater, Bloomsburg University.

Reading, Pa. (March 30, 2009) - Ten players from the Alvernia University Field Hockey team earned recognition on the 2009 Gladiator by SGI/NFHCA Division III National Academic Squad for earning GPAs of 3.3 or higher through the first semester of the 2009-2010 academic year.

Reading, Pa. (Mar. 23, 2010) - For the sixth straight season, the Alvernia University field hockey team has earned a National Academic Team Award from the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA). The award is given annually to schools that earn a team grade point average above 3.0.
