Crusaders Earn Overtime Win At Centenary
Alvernia Takes Centenary 11-10 In Overtime

Hackettstown, NJ (April 16, 2009) - Chris Baker (Barto, Pa./Boyertown) scored three goals including two in the third quarter within ten seconds of one another, and assisted on a fourth as Alvernia (3-10) defeated Centenary College (4-7) this afternoon in non-conference action by a score of 11-10 in overtime.

Centenary took the early lead less than a minute into the game with a goal from Joe Swantkoski, but the Crusaders quickly answered with two of their own to take the 2-1 lead.  With just over eight minutes remaining in the first quarter, Centenary would even the score at two.

The second quarter was more the same back and forth goal scoring action with Chris Baker (Exeter, Pa./Exeter) giving the Crusaders a short-lived 3-2 lead before Centenary tied it up at three just over a minute later.  Alvernia would answer with just over two minutes left in the second quarter to go up 4-3, leaving Centenary just enought time to tie the game at four with 30 second remaining.

Alvernia would win the third quarter 4-3 and were poised to take the game 10-9 before Centenary would take the final quarter 3-2 with a game-tying goal with 20 seconds left on the clock for a ten to ten tie at the end of regulation.  

With 1:44 left in the first overtime Louis Vetrano (Centereach, NY/Centereach) would feed Drew Giberson (Conestoga, Pa./Penn Manor) for the game winning goal to give Alvernia their third win of the season.  

The Crusaders will return to action when they host Elizabethtown in conference action this Saturday at 1:00 pm.

The 2010 Men's squad was picked 12th in the Commonwealth Conference preseason poll. The Crusader Men's Lacrosse team recorded four wins this season, their second highest win total in program history. Their season began with a close 9-11 loss against Centenary College, followed by a 7-6 win over Husson University. They then won two out of their next three games thanks to a convincing 8-7 defeat of College of Mt. Saint Vincent that went into two overtime periods.
