Men's Tennis Cruises Past DeSales, 8-1
Crusaders Still Alive For Last Playoff Spot

Center Valley, Pa. (Apr. 18, 2009) - Alvernia University (2-10, 2-4) kept its playoff hopes alive with an 8-1 victory at DeSales University (2-11, 0-7) in a Freedom Conference men's tennis match Saturday afternoon at DeSales.

The Crusaders built a 3-0 lead through the doubles play getting a 9-7 win at No. 3 doubles and won five singles matches, all in straight sets.  Alvernia needs a win at home versus Eastern University on Monday and a Misericordia loss to FDU-Florham on Tuesday to make the playoffs.

In their second season after leaving the PAC (now CSAC) Conference, the men's tennis team finished 8-8 overall, 2-4 in the MAC's Commonwealth Conference. The Crusaders struggled early on in their season, starting out 0-3. They played their first conference match against Albright College back in the beginning of April, earning the 9-0 win and starting with a 1-0 in the Commonwealth Conference.

(May 1, 2010) Reading, Pa - Alvernia University hosted the first annual Reading Wounded Warrior 5k Race/Walk to benefit the Wounded Warrior Project, a national organization supporting wounded veterans. The race is hosted around the nation to honor and support the daily sacrifices made by the brave men and women in all branches of the United States Military. The mission of the Wounded Warrior Project is to honor and empower wounded warriors by raising awareness and enlisting the public's aid for the needs of severely injured service men and women, to help severely injured service members aid and assist each other and to provide unique, direct programs and services to meet the needs of severely injured service members.
