BOX SCORE

Lakewood, N.J. (May 13, 2009) - Junior starter Shane Zellers (Wiconisco, Pa./Williams Valley) went eight strong innings giving up just one run, but #2 Keystone (38-4) came through with its fourth hit of the game with two-out in the bottom of the ninth to plate the winning run in a 2-1 win over #7 Alvernia University (26-16) Wednesday evening in the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Baseball Regional at FirstEnergy Stadium.

Alvernia scored the first run on the game in the third inning on an RBI single by Chuck Krichling (Chesterfield, N.J./Northern Burlington) and the 1-0 lead lasted until the sixth inning when Keystone knotted the score.  Kyle Conrad reached on a fielder's choice and came all the way around from first on Eric Groff's double to the wall in left center.

Zellers finished with nine strikeouts and gave up the one run on three hits with three walks.

Alvernia racked up 10 base hits, but struggled to find the clutch hit with opportunities to drive home some insurance.  The Crusaders left runners on in five of nine innings and three times had the first two on in an inning and failed to score.

Todd Speilman (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown), Krichling, and Reid Martin (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata) all finished 2-for-4 at the plate.

Alvernia will face #3 Montclair State on Thursday at 1:15 p.m.
