Reading, Pa. (June 8, 2009) – Alvernia University senior
Brian Longo (Uncasville, Conn./Montville) will serve a second term as the President of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) for the Middle Atlantic States Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) for the 2009-2010 school year.
Longo, a recent Freedom Conference Champion with the Crusader Baseball Team recognizes that his preparation through his 2008-09 term helped in his re-election. He stated that, "I have to work hard to make sure everything is in order...I have found that the better prepared I am, the better the meeting will run and those who attend are more likely to participate and be an active member."
Longo attributes his leadership style to his experiences on the baseball field, "When I am running the conference meetings, I gather all of the information, ideas and goals to form a product that everyone supports. When I am on the baseball field with 35 other athletes, we are all trying to complete the same task and bring home the championship. In both situations, I help put all of the information, ideas, abilities and strengths together to achieve a common goal."
Longo was part of Alvernia’s Emerging Leaders program as a freshman and Vice President of the Alvernia SAAC as a sophomore. He also served Alvernia as a member of the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC) SAAC during the school’s final year in the conference. Longo will continue to represent the baseball team as a SAAC member at Alvernia while leading the student organization in the MASCAC.
Longo was a 3-year letter winner at Montville High School and set the all-time wins record for a pitcher going 20-2. He was a member of the first baseball state champion with an 8-0 record as a senior.
