Zellers Earns ECAC First Team Honors

Junior Pitcher Adds To Accolades With Place On ECAC First Team

Reading, Pa. (June 8, 2009) - Junior pitcher Shane Zellers (Wisconisco, Pa./Williams Valley) was recently named to the 2009 Division III South Baseball East Coast Athletic Conference (ECAC) First Team. This honor comes after Zellers was named the Freedom Conference Pitcher of the Year and earned a spot on the All-Freedom First Team.

Zellers led the Crusaders to the Freedom Title with an 8-3 record while posting a conference-leading 2.75 ERA and allowing opposing batters just a .229 batting average. He was named the Freedom Pitcher of the Week (4/14) after allowing just two earned runs and striking out 13 over nine innings. Zellers threw two complete games this season while striking out 54 which was the fourth most by an Freedom pitcher this season.

Steve DeBarberie (Drexel Hill, Pa./Monsignor Bonner) had a pair of doubles and Nole Saylor (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown) had his fourth triple of the week and both knocked in three to help Andrew Kirk (Media, Pa./Penncrest) to the 8-3 win in the opener.
