Reading, Pa. (Sept. 18, 2009) – On September 15th the Department of Athletics and Recreation collaborated with Student Activities to host a ‘ThinkFast’ game show on campus. This event was attended by many students on campus including a large percentage of Alvernia’s student athletes. This presentation was part of the NCAA CHAMPS/LifeSkills initiative which was created to support the student-athlete development initiatives of NCAA member institutions and to enhance the quality of the student-athlete experience within the context of higher education.
The competitive spirit of Alvernia’s student athletes was revealed as teams brought their energy and enthusiasm to the game show platform. ‘Thinkfast’ is a multi-award winning, interactive, audience-response trivia game show. Its special recipe is simple; in addition to an energetic host and elaborate staging, an entertaining mixture of audio and video clips are integrated with trivia relating to current events, popular TV shows, movies, and current pop music. The ‘ThinkFast’ Challenge also included trivia that non-intrusively reinforces messages of prevention, responsibility, and awareness.
Athletic director Bill Stiles noted that “the ThinkFast program was a huge success. It delivered important messages about good decision-making in a fun and interactive way. We got great feedback from our students-athletes and coaches.” Sophomore field hockey and lacrosse player Tonya Rutt added that “I really liked how interactive it was; everyone was into it and wanted to win.”
Next up is Carolyn Brooks who will arrive on campus November 18th to speak to student athletes about leadership as well as facilitate a sportsmanship round table discussion.
