Alvernia Opens Season With 18-3 Win Over Lancaster Bible
Four Players Record Hat Tricks For Crusaders

Reading, Pa. (Mar. 9, 2010) - Freshman Allison Bainbridge scored four goals and three other players recorded hat tricks as Alvernia University (1-0) opened the season with an 18-3 win over Lancaster Bible (0-3) Tuesday afternoon in non-conference women's lacrosse action at Schlager Memorial Field.

Sophomore Sarah George (West Chester, Pa./Bayard Rustin) opened the scoring with a pair of goals in the first two minutes and the Crusaders never looked back.  George finished her hat trick 10 minutes into the second half.

Freshman Alyssa Verrillo (North Wales, Pa./Archbishop Wood) scored her first career goal at the 26:37 mark of the first half, added a second nine minutes later, and capped off her scoring with a free position goal 11 minutes before halftime.  Verillo also had a team-high three assists on the day.

Bainbridge's first goal of the day put the Crusaders up 5-0 seven minutes into play.  She added her second seven minutes later, scored a third at 9:39, and netted her fourth of the day 13 minutes into the second half.  She finished the day with two assists and she and Verillo led the Crusaders with six points apiece.

Sophomore Heather Coppola (Fulton, N.Y./G. Ray Bodley) scored a hat trick with three goals in the first half.  Her third, the last one for the Crusaders in the opening frame, put the hosts up 14-1 at the break.

Freshman goalie Victoria Kearn (Merrick, N.Y./Sanford H. Calhoun) started in net for the Crusaders and made two first-half saves.  Sophomore Jenn Czarnecki (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Hubert) stopped a pair in the second half.

Alvernia returns to action Thursday when the Crusaders host former PAC rival Neumann College for a non-conference game at 4:00 p.m.

The race is hosted around the nation to honor and support the daily sacrifices made by the brave men and women in all branches of the United States Military. The mission of the Wounded Warrior Project is to honor and empower wounded warriors by raising awareness and enlisting the public's aid for the needs of severely injured service men and women, to help severely injured service members aid and assist each other and to provide unique, direct programs and services to meet the needs of severely injured service members.

(May 12, 2010) - Junior Felicia Sippel (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Hubert) and sophomore Samantha Landis (Watsontown, Pa./Warrior Run) were named to the Women's Lacrosse All-MAC Second Team as announced by the conference on Wednesday afternoon. Teammates Sarah George (Westchester, Pa./Westchester Bayard Rustin) and Alyssa Verrillo (North Wales, Pa./Archbishop Wood) earned Honorable Mention.
