Welcome to Alvernia University Intramurals


Mission Statement

The Alvernia University Department of Intramural and Recreation Sports, as part of a college with roots in the Franciscan tradition, strives to contribute to the complete realization of the student as an intellectual, social, emotional, physical, and spiritual being. You don't have to be an athlete to play; these recreational activities are for everyone. Participants can choose to play at either the competitive or recreational level for the sports that are offered.

The Alvernia University Intramural Athletic Board (IAB) is composed of Alvernia University Students put into place to organize and manage Intramural Activities for Alvernia University students, faculty, and staff. The

Reading, Pa. (Oct. 18, 2009) - Homecoming and Family weekend at Alvernia University culminated Sunday afternoon in the induction ceremony of the 2009 Class of the Athletics Hall of Fame. Inducted on Sunday were Cristie Ansbach, Daimen Hunter, Carl Solarek, Jr., Steve Westley, and the 1991 Baseball team.

Reading, Pa. (Sept. 18, 2009) - On September 15th the Department of Athletics and Recreation collaborated with Student Activities to host a ‘ThinkFast' game show on campus. This event was attended by many students on campus including a large percentage of Alvernia's student athletes. This presentation was part of the NCAA CHAMPS/LifeSkills initiative which was created to support the student-athlete development initiatives of NCAA member institutions and to enhance the quality of the student-athlete experience within the context of higher education.

The Alvernia University Department of Athletics & Recreation mourns the loss of NCAA President Myles Brand. Brand, NCAA president since January 2003, died September 16 after a nine-month battle with pancreatic cancer.
